Thank You Notes

from Parents

March 3, 2010

Dear Nancy,

My husband and I came to a seminar in Leeds England this year, then we had a private consultation with you the next day. I realise that this "thank you" must seem like a bit of an after-thought after 10 months but I have just read the new article 'response to critics...' and felt that even though you get fantastic rave reviews all the time - totally justified! I want to add another encouragement.

Nancy - you and our therapist, with whom we've been working for about a year, are my answer to prayer. Our church had been praying with us and God answered in the most amazing, wonderful way. Your seminar was a lifeline to us - the tears streamed down my face as I listened to you telling me just how I felt and that it wasn't my fault I was failing as a parent.

We are no longer failing - we're still challenged but we are now equipped to meet the challenge and I praise and thank God for you, our therapist and the adoption worker who put us in touch with you both because the three of you have pulled us from despair to a point where we are full of hope again. I've also recently read your book 'Dandelion on my Pillow, Butcher Knife Beneath' ... I admire you so much. God bless you richly.

A happy mom from England

Dear Nancy,

I cannot thank you enough for writing The Purple Book. A friend gave me The Purple Book when I had had my son for a little over two years and I am convinced that we would not be together as a family right now if it were not for your book. God’s word tells me that, Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8. And, Nancy Thomas tells me how to do that with practical help and specific encouragement when the object of your love has RAD. We’re still going through cycles so I’m not sure if there is victory or just temporary sanity. He has been doing great for seven months. At this time last year I had no hope left. I couldn’t let another day go by without telling you how grateful I am for the HOPE! You have been a huge blessing!! Thank you, a grateful mom

Dear Nancy,

Dana is now age 16 1/2. At age 11, she was once only hours away from
being put back into foster care, due to many murder attempts against family
members. Her therapy started at age 11 1/2.

At age 13: "Mom, I'm doing better now. I'm not trying to kill you
anymore."

At age 16: Dana now looks at me and winks when I use "therapeutic
parenting" methods with her siblings with RAD. She loves me, looks at me
with clear, unashamed love in her eyes, loves to spend time with me and her
father, thanks me occasionally for not giving up, and is a joy. She
volunteers willingly and cheerfully to help around the house, and is working
to catch up in school. She wants to be a para-pro in the local intermediate
school district's program for handicapped children. Dana loves people, truly
likes herself, and is learning to take better care of herself. She became a
Christian within the last year, and is more and more attuned--to think that
I could use this word for this child!--to how other people feel. And to
think that we almost gave up!

Dana had therapy with ABC of Ohio, and we used Nancy's therapeutic
parenting techniques to help Dana attach. Her two birth siblings are making
good progress also, although slower.

God bless Nancy and all of the people who went before to make this all
happen.

A.M., Michigan

Dear Nancy,

I wanted to write you a little extra thank you note! Your classes have been
such a blessing! One thing that has blessed me tremendously is your
testimony – lots of pain, but God has turned it around to bless and change
the lives of others! Thank you again for taking time away from your family
to come and touch the lives of needy families. I am thrilled! I hope God
grants us the blessing of meeting again someday! May Jesus Richly Bless
You! Erin

Quotes:

Thank you is such an easy thing to say but how else can we express our great
appreciation for your work of love. We thank God for you and ask Him to
strengthen you as you spread your message of hope! Coon Family

Words aren’t enough to express my heart-felt gratitude for all that you’ve done for us at camp. Fine tuning my parenting skills, watching staff deal with the children, hearing some of your personal stories and seeing your hearts has brought hope back into my life. Nancy, your ministry is definitely anointed by the Lord. You present like you parent – with excellence! Kelly an Awesome Mom
